As most Disney fans know (or Star Wars fans know) Disney+ offers a lot of great content. As of 23 February 2021, Singaporeans can sign up for Disney+, a video streaming service.
Since the first day of the launch of Disney+ in Singapore, I have been a paying subscriber of Disney+ since its inception as a self-proclaimed Star Wars fan, and also as someone who is also a fan of Marvel movies. It has been more than a year now that I have been a subscriber to this magazine, and these are my thoughts about it.
Disney+ does not offer FREE Trial
With Disney+, subscribers won’t have the opportunity to take advantage of a free trial period, unlike its main competitor Netflix. In a way, this might be a bit of a bummer for people who were thinking of just getting a 1-month free trial, binge-watching Loki, WandaVision, or The Mandalorian, and then canceling once the trial period ended.
What is the cost of a Disney+ subscription?
As of now, Disney+ offers two types of subscriptions in Singapore – a monthly subscription and an annual subscription.
There is a monthly subscription fee of $11.98 per month, which you can cancel at any point in time. As of right now, that is the plan I am on.
The cost of an annual subscription is $119.98, which is just about $10 a month. By opting for the annual subscription, you can save about $2 per month compared to the monthly subscription. Since I do not intend to cancel my Disney+ subscription (more on that below), it makes a lot of financial sense to switch sooner rather than later, especially since I have no intention of canceling my Disney+ subscription any time soon.
It’s important to note that Netflix charges between $11.98 and $19.98 per month whereas HBO GO charges $3.98 per month if you opt for an annual subscription, or $119.98 per year if you choose a monthly subscription.
What are the supported devices?
Using Disney+, users will be able to watch their favorite shows across a wide range of devices, such as TVs, mobile devices, web browsers, gaming consoles, set-top boxes, and mobile devices. The most commonly used devices among these are smartphones, iPads, Android TV devices, and even just regular web browsers that you can access from your iPhone or iPad while on the move. On all of your devices, you will be able to watch up to four streams at any given time across all of them simultaneously.

My personal opinion is that the biggest selling point of Disney+ is the number of content brands it possesses that can be found on the platform. Besides Disney, Marvel, National Geographic, Pixar, Star Wars, and Star Trek, there are six other brands that fall under the Disney umbrella. Singapore is the only country in the world where it is possible to access all six brands of content.
In addition to Marvel films and Star Wars movies, we also have access to the original Disney series created by Marvel and Star Wars that are based on the Marvel and Star Wars movies. Nevertheless, if you’re a Disney fan, then the chances are that you’ve already seen most of these movies before, some of them even more than once before you subscribed to Disney+, even if you didn’t watch them then. The subscription process. What are the things that would make us want to stay with our Disney+ subscription in the long term?
In this aspect, Disney has been smart to keep its releases spaced out over a long period of time. WandaVision, for example, was launched on 15 January 2021 and the last episode was broadcast on 5 March 2021. It was launched on 19 March 2021 and the final episode of Falcon and the Winter Soldier was released on 23 April 2021. A new episode of Loki was released on the 9th of June 2021, followed by a final episode on the 14th of July 2021. There will be a sequel to this show called Hawkeye, which will premiere on 24 November 2021 and will end on 22 December 2021.
There is no doubt that the idea here is that instead of letting you binge-watch episodes at once (which is what we all want to do!) Disney is spacing out the episodes, and the various series, rather than letting you watch them all at once. The release date of Loki (Season 2) has been set for mid-2023, which is a couple of years away.

Shows on Disney+ are a Great choice for Kids
As a parent of a young child, Disney+ is invaluable if you are like me and have young children. With their Disney & Pixar brand, Disney offers a wide range of kid-friendly programmes that will keep your kids entertained for hours on end, perhaps even too much for their own good, thanks to their kid-friendly programs. It is like having a cartoon network on demand at your disposal 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
If you’re looking for something more educational, National Geographic offers a lot of great content, including documentaries, wildlife shows, and Nat Geo Kids, which is specially curated for younger children to watch and learn from.
One of the things you’ll like about Disney + is that you can assign Kids Profile to the profile that your child uses to watch content so that they watch only content that is appropriate for them to watch.
It is a fact that Disney+ is the most family-friendly video streaming subscription that we have, more so than Netflix, HBO Go, and even Amazon Prime, which I personally feel has been the most family-friendly subscription that we have ever had.
My children cannot watch many kid-friendly shows on Netflix, so there are only a limited number of shows they can watch. There isn’t much content available for children on HBO GO and there isn’t much content available on Amazon Prime for both adults and children.
Moreover, since Disney owns multiple content brands, purchasing Disney+ feels like you are getting six of the best on-demand channels with a single subscription since they own multiple brands of content.
In terms of Asian shows (Chinese movies, Korean dramas), under the Star brand, there is also a wide range of Korean and Asian shows such as Call It Love, Pandora: Beneath the Paradise, and Taiwan Crime Stories available for those looking for Asian content.
With Disney+, you can have up to 7 profiles with up to four concurrent streams at once
You are able to create up to seven profiles with four simultaneous streams with each Disney+ account. Even if you have a large family, it is unlikely that you will need to share profiles with one another in case there are multiple members. The ‘Watch Together’ option can also be used if you want to watch a show with your family and friends using different profiles for a better connection.
It is free to cancel your subscription after a month on the regular plan if you do not think you have enough time to watch the shows.
