Before you start your shopping spree in JB…
Here are a few important things to keep in mind before you embark on your shopping spree in JB:
- GST-free import limits: Anything you buy in JB and bring back to Singapore is considered an “import” and is subject to GST. You can bring in up to $100 per person of goods without paying GST if you’ve been out of the country for less than 48 hours. If you exceed this limit, you must declare it at SG customs and pay the additional 8-9%.
- JB travel insurance: Although JB is close to Singapore, it’s wise to consider getting a cheap travel insurance policy just in case of any unforeseen circumstances. It’s better to be safe.
- Changing money: JB mainly operates on a cash basis, so exchanging some ringgit and bringing it along is essential. If you plan to spend a significant amount and prefer not to carry a lot of cash, you might consider using credit cards for overseas spending or a multi-currency card like Trust card or YouTrip to save on forex transaction fees.
