Although some of us may often fly on commercial planes for overseas trips from Changi Airport, however experiencing military aircraft is rare.
Have you ever wondered what it feels like to ride in a Chinook helicopter? Well, this National Day might just offer you the opportunity to find out.
Did you know that the Republic of Singapore Air Force (RSAF) is celebrating its 55th anniversary this year? In light of RSAF55, they will be giving away 2,500 tickets to experience what it’s like to fly in their military aircraft and more. The inner child in me is super excited about this.
Some of the aircraft that you can look forward to taking a flight in include the CH-47SD Chinook helicopter, C130 Aircraft — similar to the ones that the Red Lions jump out of during their military freefall display — the Fokker 50 aircraft, and the Singapore Youth Flying Club’s DA40 trainer aircraft.
During the flight, the aircraft will be flying over the eastern and southern parts of Singapore, so you might be able to spot your home as well as smaller islands south of Singapore.
Here’s what you need to do if you’re as excited as I am about the flights. RSAF55 Open House Familiarisation Flight Ballot will open on 20 Jul, 1200H. will be available starting noon on Thursday, 20 July, and ending 22 Aug 2023. All Singaporeans and permanent residents can access the link on RSAF’s social media channels. Keep in mind that every individual can only vote once.
Dates, times, and aircraft types will be randomly assigned by the balloting system, so you may not get your preferred flight. For what it’s worth, it’s still a unique experience. In addition, how often do you get to fly in a military aircraft?
To increase your chances of winning a flight ticket, you can also participate in RSAF55 social media contests and giveaways. Contests begin on Friday and end on 22 August 2023. Remember to mark the date and keep your fingers crossed for the results of the ballot, giveaway, and contest at the end of August!
For safety reasons, only passengers over the age of five and at least one metre tall are allowed on board. We regret to inform you that those with mobility issues, heart or lung conditions, and pregnant women cannot board the familiarization flights.
Be sure to follow RSAF‘s Facebook & Instagram for the registration link and other RSAF55 updates if you’re looking forward to this once-in-a-lifetime experience. You still have time to vote – so, good luck everyone!
