Have you ever overextended your data limits? Do you wish you could save money and get more data while being able to switch service provider’s monthly fee pays for the subsidies on the handset (making the plan function partially as an installment plan for the phone).
However, this means that if you do not contract immediately at the 2-year mark, you will essentially be paying additional installments for a phone that is already paid for as the plan would continue at a higher monthly rate. However, this has changed with the introduction of sim-only plans.
Most SIM-only plans do not require a contract and do not include subsidies for handsets. Switching telcos is always an option if there are better plans offered by an alternative provider, or if the current provider’s service is unsatisfactory. There are, however, downsides to switching, including the time it takes for the SIM card to be delivered, and having no reception or data during the downtime.
Would I be able to keep my number if I switched to SIM-only?
Yes, of course! In fact, port-ins are highly encouraged due to better deals and freebies. All you have to do is fill out the sign-up form with your existing number and the telco will take care of the rest.
Furthermore, SIM-only plans offer a lot of data at a reasonable price, which is another advantage. In contrast, traditional postpaid (2-year contract) plans generally provide more SMS and Talktime but relatively little data, and prepaid plans charge exorbitant data charges. A SIM-only plan is a good option if you use a lot of data.

Singtel, M1, StarHub or SIMBA?
As we heard, a pretty crappy internet connection has been a problem for SIMBA. Meanwhile, Singtel seems to offer the best coverage based on their reviews. Singtel or MVNOs that ride on its network is probably the better options if you want reliable coverage, even though SIMBA offers some of the best bang-for-the-buck plans.
Singapore Consumers Have Many Options
SIM-only contracts are becoming increasingly popular. All three local telcos – SingTel, StarHub, and M1 – offer SIM-only plans, as does SIMBA (formerly TPG Mobile), which won Singapore’s fourth telco license.
Additionally, several mobile virtual network operators (MVNOs) have entered the market, offering SIM-only plans, including GOMO Mobile (launched by SingTel), giga (launched by StarHub), Circles.Life, Zero1, MyRepublic, redONE, ViviFi, Grid Mobile (a joint venture by SingTel and ST Telemedia), China Mobile, Changi Mobile, and Gorilla Mobile.
Consequently, the telecommunications market has become increasingly competitive. In Singapore, consumers are the major beneficiaries (for now), as prices have tapered, service standards are improving, and products have become more innovative.
Under $15/month SIM-Only Plans

Recommended: Zero1 Starter
Among the cheapest plans, the Zero1 Starter plan offers 6GB for just $6.90, along with unlimited throttled data and decent minutes/SMS.
Additionally, Zero1 uses the Singtel network, which provides the most coverage.
Best value: SIMBA (50GB)
SIMBA’s $50GB SIM-Only plan is undoubtedly the best value for money. Until 31 December 2022, you can even get an extra 50GB with the company’s promotion.
It is also relevant to note that SIMBA is a relatively newly-formed organization that uses its own network. Be sure to read reviews before making the switch.
Recommended: GOMO (60GB)
GOMO’s 60GB plan for $25 per month may be the best plan for you if you want the best network coverage in Singapore and a whopping 60GB data plan. Furthermore, any unused data can be carried over to the next month.
If you don’t use more than 20GB, you can consider GOMO’s 20GB plan for $20 instead.
Recommended/Best value: redONE (Unlimited)
You might as well get unlimited EVERYTHING if you’re paying top dollar for a SIM-Only plan! Despite being the most expensive plan on our list at $48 per month, redONE’s Unlimited48 plan gives you unlimited data, talk time, and SMSes!
Best for Students
Unlimited plans like Zero1’s Starter (6GB), VIVIFI’s Plus Plan (9GB), and redOne’s WOW10 (10GB) all offer 6GB or more of data respectively, and are all under $15 monthly. People who don’t use much data or cannot afford to exceed their data plans unknowingly will benefit from these plans since the stated data is provided at full speeds and all usage thereafter is throttled. It may also be worth it for students to purchase TPG’s 100GB plan for just $10 since it provides more data than the average student might use.
At the moment, SIMBA’s Seniors Plan is the cheapest SIM-only plan available. This plan is only available to seniors (60 years and older), and each senior can apply for a maximum of four lines.
