As well as being called battle fatigue syndrome or shell shock, post-traumatic stress disorder is a mental health condition caused by traumatic or terrifying experiences.
It is characterized by intense fear, intrusive thoughts, helplessness, flashbacks, and nightmares. Rescue workers, emergency personnel, and loved ones of victims are often affected by this condition.
Traumatic events usually lead to people having trouble coping with their feelings and thoughts for some time afterwards. If the symptoms persist for months or years, then it’s a clear sign that the person has PTSD.
Although it is not yet known what causes post-traumatic stress disorder, it is believed that genetic, psychological, social, environmental, and physical factors may contribute to its development. PTSD treatment involves both psychotherapeutic and pharmacological interventions. It is crucial for people with Post-traumatic Stress Disorder to receive treatment.
